On March 9-10, 2014, Centropa held our second professional development seminar for teachers working in European Jewish schools in Frankfurt, Germany. Twenty-seven teachers and school directors from 15 schools in 13 countries attended. The seminar was held at a conference hotel in Frankfurt and in the city’s Jewish community center.
The seminar give our teachers and school directors the opportunity to work alongside those who face many of the same challenges unique to European Jewish schools. Issues are raised and addressed; problems are aired and discussed.
During our Frankfurt seminar each participant made a presentation on his or her school, telling us when it was
founded, how many students attend and in which grades, etc. Veteran teachers presented projects they and their students have been carrying out. We watched four new Centropa films based on Centropa interviews, then we worked in small groups to draft lesson plans and project ideas around these films; established working partnerships.
A special thank you to our partners and supporters the European Jewish Fund, the Polinger Foundation, the Thalheimer Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, the Central Council of Jews in Germany and also the Jewish Community of Frankfurt.
Thank you to all our participants for being present and sharing amazing ideas. We hope to see you next year as well!
